The days are getting longer, the sun's rays are getting more powerful, and the plants are just soaking it up!
some kind of poppy... grows about 3ft tall but only flowers for a week... the seed pods linger for the rest of the summer...
the Clematis 'General Sikorski' is clambering its way up the staghorn sumac (Rhus typhina) beside the patio...
and the flowers buds are begining to form...
the ornamental and native grasses, coneflowers and black eyed susans in the xeriscape garden are really to getting going... but only one of the feather reed grass (Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Karl Foerster') really came back strong - I may have cut back the old growth too early in the spring and the several late frosts nipped the buds...
the green coneflower (Rudbeckia nitida or Rudbeckia laciniata 'Herbstonne' or 'Autumn Sun') and the recently transplanted tall tickseed (Coreopsis tripteris) is loving all the late spring sun... but only one of the dense blazing star (Liatris spicata) really came back strong and none of the dwarf fountain grass (Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Hameln') have shown much growth... I suppose fall planting is a hazardous economic risk...
the forsythia ('Northern Gold') is bushing out nicely to give contrast to the foundation planting of fragrant sumac (Rhus aromatica)...
as these relatively short bushes grow wider, a path will be maintained behind the hedge to alleviate moisture problems along the house, and to access the water spigot...
